Upcoming Art Exhibits You Don’t Want to Miss
If you’re an art lover, then get ready to see some amazing and inspiring exhibits that are coming up around town. Check out a few that will be featured this month.
“Something in the Way: A Brief History of Obstruction”
Be sure to visit this inspiring photography exhibit at the New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA). The collection explores photography’s relationship to the world through an interesting selection of photographs that include obstructions. These photos are meant to remind us that the photograph itself can be an obstruction to the real world. This is an especially stirring exhibit, given the multi-media culture we now live in. View “Something in the Way: A Brief History of Obstruction” now through February 19th.
“Kenneth Josephson: Photography Is”
Another great photography exhibit at the NOMA is “Kenneth Josephson: Photography Is”. Josephson is one of the most creative and enthralling photographers of this century. His playful images use contrasting artistic elements such as light, shadow, flatness, and depth. The image and the object are paired to create breathtaking, fun photos. Josephson uses his photographs to emphasize the process by which the photos were taken. He is truly a unique artist that you don’t want to miss out on. This exhibit also runs through the 19th.
“Rodrigue: Happy Mardi Gras.”
If you live in Louisiana, then you probably are familiar with the blue dog art of George Rodrigue. Rodrigue grew up in Louisiana and he is famous for his vibrant paintings of blue dogs. Now through March 19th, you can go and see his exhibit entitled “Rodrigue: Happy Mardi Gras”. This exhibit will be at the Rodrigue Studio in New Orleans. Whether you’re familiar with Rodrigue’s works or not, you certainly don’t want to miss out on this unique showcase. This historic collection of works, spanning 40 years of Mardi Gras traditions, is a must see!
If you are looking for something different from your average art exhibit, then you should consider checking out Rashaad Newsome’s “Melange Exhibition”. This exhibit combines film, drawing, dance, theater, technology, and gaming to create an out of this world performance. Stop by for a visit now until February 12th.
