Celebrate Thanksgiving with these Family Crafts
The holiday season is the perfect time for family activities. Plus, with Thanksgiving around the corner, a crafting session is definitely in order. Just by its name, Thanksgiving seems like a great time to show gratitude. So, get the kids aboard the thankfulness train by making these gratitude leaf crafts.
Tutorial #1: Paper Gratitude Leaves
Here’s what you’ll need: Paper, crayons, pencils, markers, safety scissors
Step 1: Take a sheet of paper and use a pencil to draw out a large leaf shape.
Step 2: Use safety scissors to cut out the leaf shape.
Pro Tip: Pick up multiple sheets of paper, accounting for the number of people who will be participating in this project. Then, stack those sheets of paper up behind the sheet you have drawn your leaf shape on and cut out multiple leaves at once.
Step 3: Pass out the paper leaves to each participating individual, along with pencils, markers, and crayons.
Step 4: On one side of the leaf, use a pencil to write down what you are grateful for.
Step 5: On the opposite side of the leaf, use the crayon to decorate.
Step 6: Use the marker to outline the leaf shape. On the colored side, use the marker to write your name.
Tutorial #2: Clay Gratitude Leaves
Here’s what you’ll need: Polyform clay in assorted fall colors, a rolling pin, a glass cutting mat, leaf cookie cutters.
Step 1: Choose 2 colors of polyform clay and roll them into snakes. Then, twist the snakes together.
Step 2: Roll the twisted clay into a ball and use a rolling pin to flatten.
Pro Tip: For more swirls, roll the clay into a snake again. Then, fold it in half, twist it up tight, roll it back into a ball, and use a rolling pin to re-flatten.
Step 3: Use leaf cookie cutters to make fall leaves.
Pro Tip: Consider using a precision glass cutting mat for rolling out and cutting your autumn leaves. Polyform clay can stain, so this glass mat will protect your work surface from stains and cuts.
Step 4: Use alphabet stamps to stamp out one thing that you are grateful for onto the front side of your clay leaf.
Step 5: Place the leaves onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake then in the oven according to the clay manufacturer’s directions.
Pro Tip: A good rule of thumb is cooking for about 15-20 minutes at 275 degrees, checking back regularly.
Step 6: Allow the clay fall leaves to cool completely.
