Many different Studies have shown that yoga can help improve your sleep. By performing certain yoga poses you can help to lower your stress levels and ease tension in the mind and body. This, in turn, helps you to get a better more rested sleep. These are three of the top yoga poses that can help you to get a better night’s rest.

The Standing Forward Bend

The standard forward bend is one of the best yoga poses to perform for a better night’s sleep as it is said to help aid in relieving insomnia. It also works to relieve headaches as well as lower stress levels. To do this pose simply stand with your feet around six inches apart. Begin by folding the torso down to the ground reaching toward the ground. Hands can swing or lay flat, or you can grab the opposite elbow to get even more out of the pose. Sway from side to side while being sure to breathe in and out slowly. To relieve more tension on the back or legs knees can be bent. It is a great pose for better sleep as well as an excellent way to stretch the back and legs.

Legs Up The Wall Pose

The legs up the wall pose is a great pose for a variety of different people since it is so easy to perform. It is an excellent way to help relax the mind and body and lower stress levels. It is one of the simplest poses to achieve, you simply lay on the floor and flip your legs up against the wall. Try maintaining the pose for at least five minutes. For more relaxation keep the eyes closed.

Alternate Nostril Breathing

This is another great yoga pose that a variety of different people can do since it is so simple. To do this exercise you can either sit up with your legs crossed or lie down on your right side. Begin by covering the right nostril with your thumb while your other fingers are extended straight out. Take 5 to 10 deep breaths out of your open left nostril. This is an excellent way to help control and relax your breathing which will soothe stress levels and allow you to get a better night’s sleep. This is one of the best poses to perform as it can be done right before bed or even in bed.

Each way is designed to relax the mind and body so the individual can get a more rested sleep. These poses can be performed at any time of the day but are especially great right before bed when the body and mind need the most relaxing.
