3 Art Exhibits to Check Out in New Orleans
Viewing art exhibits is a great way to soak up some culture and enjoy some beautiful creations made by some very talented people. The Georgian Collection
The Georgian era was a period of lavish wealth and British expansion. With this newfound prosperity came an up rise in arts and architecture. The Georgian Collection is a great way to get a look at works from some of the finest artists and craftsmen of the Georgian era. The exhibit takes place at M.S. Rau Antiques in New Orleans and is free to the public – so you have no excuse not to go! Some of the golden age artists featured are Hester Bateman, Thomas Chippendale, and Paul Storr. You don’t want to miss out on this inspiring collection during the month of June.
Regina Scully’s exhibit, Japanese Landscapes: Inner Journeys will be at the New Orleans Museum of Art all throughout the month of June. Scully’s paintings are displayed alongside a selection of Japanese works from the museum’s permanent collection. The point of the Regina Scully exhibit is to show the parallels between modern day American art and 18th and 19th-century Asian art. Admission for adults is $12 and for seniors, it’s $10. Jim Steg is a New Orleans-based printmaker who lived from 1922 to 2001. He is one of the most influential printmakers of our time. During his long and prosperous career, Steg utilized every form of printmaking and even invented a few of his own. This fascinating exhibit shows Steg as both an innovator and an artist. His unique prints are definitely worth the trip to the New Orleans Museum of Art. Admission for adults is $12 and for seniors, it’s $10. More about Jim Steg can be found on the museum website.
