Compact Fun in the Volkswagen Tiguan
The Volkswagen Tiguan is a compact SUV with a fun-to-drive feel and the latest technology and features. For a compact crossover, it still manages to offer plenty of interior space with its rear split and folding seats. This vehicle impresses drivers with its turbocharged 2.0-liter engine, tidy dimensions, and nice firm chassis which helps distinguish itself from others in its class. Drivers and critics love the Tiguan because it feels more driver oriented than most off-roading crossovers. Experience the Tiguan’s German driving performance for yourself. The Updates to the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan
One of the big changes for the 2017 Tiguan was an adjustment to the trim levels. While some models saw the trims being streamlined, the Tiguan’s variations just get name changes. The former R-Line is now the Wolfsburg, and the SE trim has become the Sport. These new names more closely match those used on other Volkswagen models, making it easier for drivers to understand the differences between trims. In addition to the renaming of two trim levels, the 2017 Volkswagen Tiguan also has a few new standard features on the base S trim. This model now comes with VW Car-Net connectivity that lets you sync two smartphones, Bluetooth*, and a 6.3-inch touchscreen. The Wolfsburg trim adds a panoramic sunroof and custom floormats and badging to the 2016 Tiguan R-Line’s features. Finally, the newly renamed Tiguan Sport sports 18-inch gray alloy wheels and body-color side sill trim on the exterior. It also has automatic climate control and a sport suspension. You will also notice a Leather Package which gives you Vienna leather seats, power-adjustable seats in front, memory for the driver’s seat, and exterior power-folding mirrors. The Tiguan should enter a new generation with the following model year, so expect even more updates in the near future. The new generation model was already unveiled during 2016 at the Frankfurt International Auto Show and is built on the MQB platform from Volkswagen Group.
Getting to Know the VW Tiguan’s History
The Volkswagen Tiguan was the automaker’s first compact crossover SUV, and it was based on their existing small car platform, which is likely familiar to those who know the Golf and Jetta. This 2009 VW Tiguan had a turbo-boosted engine and European styling with aggressive hints for its class. In fact, the Tiguan has always run on the same 200-horsepower 2.0-liter you can find on current models. A 2011 facelift saw the headlights getting more angular and bolder, and the SUV incorporating the prominent horizontal grille bars found on the new Passat and Golf. The Tiguan was slightly revised for the 2012 model year, including replacing the front grille as well as the apron. The useful Car-Net telematics service became standard during the 2014 model year, beating the competition to the punch by offering these telematics on all models. This was also the model year that Volkswagen introduced the R-Line trim with its performance orientation.
